Clear Aids for Better Transitions

Coordination & Control

What happens when you think downward transition with your horse? Do your thoughts jumble? Here is an easy process to follow every time you ask for a downward transition and it doesn’t even matter what gait you’re in. Start in riding posture with your elbows at your sides, hands on your thighs, and poll engaged. Think downward transition and start from the center of your body – pulling your lower abdomen in and tilting your pelvis back. Reach upward through your torso and engage your poll. Keep practicing off the horse – organizing your thoughts and coordinating your body for better downward transitions during your ride.
